At long last, Spider-Man is finally home. He’s back in the creative hands of Marvel thanks to a deal the studio made with Sony Pictures. He made his MCU debut earlier this year in Captain America: Civil War, and Sony announced a solo movie over the summer called Spider-Man: Homecoming.
We’ve just been itching for a look at Tom Holland suiting up and being generally friendly in his neighborhood, and now the first trailers have made their way online after debuting on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night.
Then, as if that wasn’t enough, we were also treated to an international trailer which features a whole bunch of different footage from the first.
I’m not going to lie, I think these are good, not great. Before you jump on me, I still said good! This is definitely a movie I’m looking forward to, and these trailers reinforce that this is definitely something I want to see. However, I’m not exactly blown away. This looks like…another Spider-Man movie, and I’m curious to see whether Marvel is really going to pull out all the stops and give us something unique and different in welcoming their flagship hero back into the family, or if they’re going to play it safe and give us another paint-by-numbers Marvel film. Also, we get it: Iron Man is in this. I thought he was just going to have a small part, but it looks like he’s practically the 2nd lead. Does Marvel not trust Spidey to carry his own movie?
Time will tell on all these concerns, I guess. Let me know what you think though and leave a comment.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7th, 2017.
